Who We Are

"Decent TV" is the acronym for the Decency Enforcement Center for Television, a Michigan based "501 c 3" nonprofit corporation.

What We Do

Decent TV is engaged in legal advocacy in U.S. federal courts and the FCC for continuation of laws restricting obscenity and indecency on broadcast television and radio. Decent TV has filed amicus ("friend of the court") briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court,  Courts of Appeals, and  District Court. Beginning in 2006, major U.S. television networks (CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox)  requested the courts to permanently strike down  all laws and rules restricting  broadcast indecency for television and radio, arguing for  a new "right" to air and show virtually any level of explicit indecency into every home and place in the U.S. at any time without any restraint or legal responsibility.

Decent TV  filled a void by filing briefs to provide courts with the crucial legal and factual information they needed to make intelligent legal decisions in those cases,  to protect all Americans. As a result, all of those courts ruled in our favor, in five cases.  Decent TV has a leadership role and  no other organization has this primary purpose. On a very small budget, Decent TV successfully took on and triumphed over  the major broadcast television networks, with their multi-million dollar budgets and high priced law firms in court. Decent TV also provides the Federal Communications Commission with consulting and public comments on legal matters concerning broadcasting.   Our express corporate purpose is to defend and enforce civil rights secured by law, primarily as to public decency.

Decent TV was incorporated in Michigan in 2007 and is registered with the Michigan Attorney General as a charitable corporation.

"DECENT TV IS AN ORGANIZATION THAT IS EFFECTIVELY ADVOCATING FOR BROADCAST DECENCY IN THE FEDERAL COURTS AND AT THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION.  THE BROADCAST TV NETWORKS HAVE LAUNCHED ONE LEGAL ATTACK AFTER ANOTHER SO THAT THEY CAN POLLUTE THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES WITH INDECENT PROGRAMMING.  DECENT TV HAS BEEN AT THE FOREFRONT OF THESE LEGAL BATTLES, AND I WHOLEHEARTEDLY ENDORSE THEIR WORK." - Robert Peters,  President Emeritus, Morality in Media.
